Max Bond, Jr., influential black architect honored by exhibit cosponsored by ABC Imaging

ABC Imaging recently cosponsored a memorial exhibit for J. Max Bond, Jr., FAIA, the prominent and influential black architect who died in February. Mr. Bond was partner in the firm Davis Brody Bond the other sponsor of the exhibit.

The exhibit, Max Bond: 1935 to 2009, opened in May as part of the Helfand Spotlight Series at the Center for Architecture in New York City. The center is the education and exhibit arm of the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

Mr. Bond rose to the heights of his profession driven by his ability and passion for design and for recognizing the social impact of design in the built environment. He was famous also as an educator and mentor to young architects.

Early in his career he practiced in France and Ghana. In Ghana he designed the Bolgatanga Regional Library, unique for its large flat roof and natural ventilation, which did away with air conditioning. He also designed the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta. At the time of his death, he was leading the design team responsible for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center.

ABC Imaging assisted Davis Brody Bond by preparing and mounting a timeline and other illustrations from Mr. Bond's career for the exhibit. This work was coordinated and produced by the New York store. The New York store also printed the program for the memorial service for Mr. Bond.

"We want to thank the ABC team for working so diligently with us on the materials" said Christey L Robinson, Director of Business Development at Davis Brody Bond. "They truly capture the story of a man who brought so much to the practice and teaching of architecture, inspiring so many along the way."
